Some Helpful Google Extensions You Might Have Missed

Today we spent sometime checking the archives of Chrome Web Store and singled out for you the collection below. These are all Chrome extensions created by Google but are not very popular among teachers ( compared with add-ons such as Google Classroom, Scholar..etc). Some of things you can do with these tools include: improve webpage colour perception to help people who are colour blind, access a virtual keyboard that supports over 90 languages, easily cast your Chrome content and tabs to your TV, access interactive training lessons to help you make the best of your G Suite experience, search pages similar to the one you are browsing…and many more.


1- Color Enhancer

‘A customizable color filter applied to webpages to improve color perception, for people who are partially color-blind.’

2- Google Input Tools

‘The Google Input Tools extension provides virtual keyboards for over 90 languages, full IMEs or direct transliteration for over 30 different scripts, and handwriting input for over 40 languages.’

3- Google Cast (no longer available)

‘The Google Cast extension enables you to find and play content on your Chromecast device from your Chrome browser…You can also cast any of your tabs in Chrome to your TV, letting you enjoy sites, photos, or even video from the best screen in your home.  Note that this feature is still in beta, and requires a fast computer and Wi-Fi network.’

4- ChromeVox

5- Password Alert

‘If you enter your Google Account password or Google for Work password into anywhere other than Google's sign-in page, you’ll receive an alert, so you can quickly change your password if needed.’

6- G Suite Training

‘G Suite Training is a Chrome extension that offers simple and interactive training lessons to get you up and running fast with G Suite (formerly Google Apps). ’

7- Personal Blocklist

‘The personal blocklist extension will transmit to Google the patterns that you choose to block. When you choose to block or unblock a pattern, the extension will also transmit to Google the URL of the web page on which the blocked or unblocked search results are displayed. You agree that Google may freely use this information to improve our products and services.’

8- Google Similar Pages

‘Now you can quickly preview and explore other pages that are similar to the one you are browsing -- on the fly. When you click the Similar Pages button, your browser will send a search query to Google to see if there are any similar pages for the page you are viewing.’
