In this post, I am sharing with you this interesting collection of good educational iPad apps specifically curated from iTunes App Store for high school teachers and students. These are apps to help students with chemistry learning from understanding the elements, molecules and atoms to exploring chemical reactions.
These chemistry apps provide high school students with activities, video lessons, simulated experimentations, periodic tables and several other materials and resources to boost their chemistry learning and engage them in deep and meaningful learning experiences.
2- Chemistry by THIX
''Experiment with various lab equipment, procedures, and chemicals with complete freedom—no need to buy chemicals or clean up afterwards. Perfect for testing, exploring, learning, or just playing around...The 17 essential lab apparatuses are not only intuitively easy to use, but can also satisfy all your scientific demanding...180 built-in inorganic chemical reagents. 60+ organic chemicals. Covering the materials from kids science class up to college chemistry.''
3- ChemCalc
‘This is a convenient chemistry tool for students and professionals to calculate molecular mass (molecular weight) of compounds and learn basic properties of chemical elements on iPad.’
4- Atom in a Box HD
‘Rewritten from scratch for the iPad, Atom in a Box HD is an aid for visualizing the Hydrogen atomic orbitals, the three-dimensional states that the electron occupies in Hydrogen, a prime and otherwise unwieldy example of Quantum Mechanics. ’
5- Chemistry Formulas Practice
'Chemistry Formulas Practice stimulates students’ mastery of the fundamental skill of naming compounds and writing formulas. The practice categories include ionic and molecular compounds, acids, bases, polyatomic ions, hydrocarbons, and organic functional groups. Students may choose their pace as they work from formula to name or name to formula.'
6- iSpartan
‘iSpartan is a versatile app for molecular modeling on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. The app allows any chemist fast and easy access to computational methods that have proven reliable for a large range of molecules.’7- Chemistry Formula Practice Free
‘Chemistry Formulas Practice stimulates students’ mastery of the fundamental skill of naming compounds and writing formulas. The practice categories include ionic and molecular compounds, acids, bases, polyatomic ions, hydrocarbons, and organic functional groups.’8- Coaster Physics
'Used by educators everywhere to bring motion Physics to life in the classroom, Coaster Physics is now optimized for iOS 8 and for the latest iPhones and iPads.
What are the laws of Physics governing the motion of a roller coaster? How are speed and acceleration related? How does the g-force change at different points along the track? Design and ride your very own realistic roller coaster, and see how quantities like speed, acceleration, energy and g-force change as you ride along the track.'
9- Chem101
'The app features a custom-built tool that allows students and instructors to quickly and intuitively draw Lewis structures on mobile devices. Additionally, both students and instructors have access to over 250 built-in questions related to Lewis structures, resonance, molecular geometries, VSEPR, hybridization, sigma and pi bonding, and molecular polarity.'
10- Organic Reactions
'The application is organized to provide a direct link between a reactant and its corresponding product, as well as the synthesis and protection reactions.
To enable a regular updating and to support this work, some of the functions, and a list of reactions sorted by name requires an additional purchase.'
11- ReactionFlash
'Designed and developed in consultation with Professor Dr. Erick M. Carreira of ETH Zürich, the app covers over 1'000 named chemistry reactions. Professor Carreira has helped ensure that we have all the fundamental reactions that should be part of every chemist’s toolkit: from the best-known ones to the ones only Nobel Prize winners remember!'
